While “Hidden History” goes out of its way to deny itself as comprehensive, the book is packed with Jackson history at moments fraught with consequence.

“Today’s groundbreaking represents Trustmark’s continued commitment to our customers, the Fondren community and the city of Jackson,” stated Trustmark CEO Jerry Host.

“This is our way of giving back and being a good steward of the resources we have gained,” said Sonya Walker, Care-A-Van’s director for 13 years.

“The (Jackson Free Clinic) is 10 minutes from UMMC,” says Jessica Arnold, “but there are still people who wouldn’t receive health care if not for this clinic.”

“It’s so rewarding to hear from other schools when they can automatically pinpoint a St. Luke’s child in their classes,” says Director Mary-Crosby Roberts.

“The (two-week Mississippi) road trip wasn’t a super inside view,” says Jane Jones. “My goal was to discover what’s accessible for people coming in.”

Modern shades of blues, greys, and tans, new lighting and floor coverings are highlights of the renovations that have taken place at this Jackson favorite.

Housed in a nondescript storefront in the Fondren strip, The Flamingo will host art and music shows and serve as a rental and collaborative space.
