Newk’s Favorite Salad

Family recipes, just like the dishes he had on the table during his childhood.

That’s how Chris Newcomb describes the tastes of the restaurant we know as Newk’s Eatery.

The chain, founded by Chris Newcomb and his father, Don Newcomb, in 2004 and headquartered in LeFleur East, celebrates 15 years this month with a spotlight on time-honored favorites and their commitment to community.

“Growing up, I was a foodie in the making, sharing my mom’s passion for home-cooked meals, and watching my parents and their friends at work in the kitchen,” said Newk’s Founder & CEO, Chris “Newk” Newcomb.

Recently named “America’s Favorite Fast-Casual Chain” by Restaurant Business Magazine, Newk’s Eatery serves tossed salads, hand-crafted pizzas and hot toasted sandwiches using fresh ingredients, some from the other side of the globe including Ammerlander Swiss cheese, petite tenderloin steak and sushi-grade ahi tuna. Newk’s also owns its own bakery, making its signature Dozen-Layer Cakes.

When you order from any of Newk’s 122 locations in 15 states, the recipes remain true to Newcomb family recipes.

“The chicken salad is Chris’s mom’s,” brand marketing manager and Newk’s Cares Co-Chair Katie Twiford said. “So is the pimiento cheese, but he added a bit of cayenne pepper for a kick. Chris has taken things he had as a child and tweaked them and made them his own.”

That white BBQ sauce?

It was one of Don Newcomb’s favorites.

“He started on a quest to find the perfect white bbq, trying sauces along the Alabama coast until he found one he loved in Destin, Florida,” Twiford explained. The sauce is on sandwiches and pizzas in the restaurant and available in bottles in Newk’s grab-and-go cooler.

There are other factors that make the restaurant special.

The round table condiment bar – complimentary to all guests – is one way for diners to make their meal their own. Imported Italian breadsticks and olive oils, capers and shredded parmesan cheese join fresh roasted garlic hand-cut croutons and bread and butter pickles, the most-oft requested of the condiments.

“Our vision for Newk’s was to provide scratch-made recipes in a fast casual environment, with one major differentiator – an open kitchen where our guests can see all the work that goes into the food and feel like they are part of the family,” Chris said.

Fifteen years in, Newk’s continues to set itself apart with its commitment to the guest experience.

“We’re grateful to have reached this milestone with the support of our Newk’s franchisees, managers, hourly partners and communities,” Chris said. “As we look ahead to the next 15 years, we’re excited to continue innovating in the fast-casual space, as we maintain our priority on wholesome craveable food, hospitality and making a difference in our communities.”
