The Mississippi Kidney Foundation has announced that Hall Carter has been named its new executive director, replacing Gail Sweat, executive director for the past two decades, who has recently retired.

Carter joins new associate director, Walton Fenelon, who is from Jackson.

“This is an exciting new chapter for the Mississippi Kidney Foundation,” Carter said. “In addition to providing emergency aid to Mississippi kidney patients, I am looking forward to helping patients through effective awareness programs, which can help lower health care costs and cut down on the number of hospital visits. The future well-being of our state is inextricably linked to the health of our citizens. I am proud to be a part of a Foundation that is working to make our future brighter and healthier.”

Carter joins the Foundation with extensive leadership experience. A Memphis, Tenn. native, over the course of the past decade, Carter has held integral positions for several U.S. senators, most recently serving as Senator Roger Wicker’s executive assistant and scheduler. She has also worked for Senators. Bob Bennett (Utah) and Lamar Alexander (Tennessee).

Her previous non-profit experience includes serving on the board of the Taste of the South held in Washington D.C. Carter attended Sewanee: The University of the South, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in U.S. History.

“On behalf of the board of trustees, I would like to welcome Hall as the new executive director,” said Dr. Daniel Habeeb, president of the Mississippi Kidney Foundation and nephrologist in Hattiesburg, Miss. “She obviously has a love for the people of our state, as evidenced by her previous work in serving in Senator (Roger) Wicker’s office in Washington. I look forward to working with Hall and Walton in carrying out the mission of the foundation, to serve kidney patients throughout the state and to promote kidney disease awareness.”

The Mississippi Kidney Foundation hosts several events throughout the year, with the next event being the Michael Rubenstein Memorial Kidney Walk, scheduled for October 6 in Fondren.
