A boutique hotel to be built at the corner of State Street and Mitchell Avenue is asking for community feedback.

Millsaps College’s ELSEWorks at the school’s Else School of Management is conducting a survey on behalf of  The Fondren,” an Aloft branded hotel – a hip and modern arm of Starwood Resorts. That online questionnaire is polling those who fill it out for information related to their dining and drinking habits. Those answers will help shape the offerings of the nine story hotel and its bars, namely the rooftop Asylum Bar planned as part of the project.

First opened at the Trudeau International Airport in Montreal in 2008, Alofts are known for their vibrant and contemporary feel. The Fondren will go a step further, mixing modern and mid century, utilizing and preserving the current Kolb’s Cleaners as the hotel’s lobby.

The $20 million project, developed by Eldon Development Group with its partner, CDA Hospitality, is being heralded for its potential to spark an already fast-growing Fondren economy. Impact studies conducted by Cowart Hospitality Services of Birmingham, Alabama, predict the development, when stabilized, will achieve a 75 percent average occupancy rate, produce over $200 million in spending over ten years, and millions of dollars in tax revenue for the city of Jackson.
