BancorpSouth has announced plans to construct a “new and enhanced” Medical Center location at 2710 North State Street in Fondren. The newly constructed building will take the place of the bank currently located on the site at the point where Old Canton Road meets State Street.

The former Sun Gallery, just north at 2720 North State Street, will serve as a temporary branch location.

Brad Maley, BancorpSouth’s president of their North Metro market, said their goal during construction is to be as little of an inconvenience to their customers as possible. “Plans are to close Friday, February 5 at the end of business and reopen Monday, February 8 in the temporary location with no interruption in service.”

In a letter sent to the bank’s customers, Maley explained there would be the same lobby service, along with a customer service and loan desk. At this time, though, drive-through, ATM and night drop service will be suspended.

“We are committed to meeting your banking needs,” the letter stated, “as we strive to make the transition as seamless as possible.”

Maley said the biggest change with the new building, beside the obvious aesthetic one, is better flow. “We’ve been limited on parking and drive-thru queuing,” he said, “and with this new facility, every aspect of ingress and egress will improve.”

Current ATM technology, elevators and full ADA accessibility will be a benefit along with more lines of business represented on site like a dedicated mortgage representative.

Over the course of the week of February 8-12, Maley said banking officials would finish necessary removals of anything at their old facility. “If all goes as plan, we’ll be moving quickly (on demolition),” he added. “It’ll be a good project and we want to do it right.”

All permits and approvals from the City of Jackson’s zoning and planning department have been secured and everything is in place to proceed. Maley was unable to provide a schedule date of completion for the project.
