Wier Boerner Allin Purchases ‘Point’
Wier Boerner Allin Architecture has a new project: their own.
The regional firm headquartered in the heart of Fondren closed earlier this month on the purchase of The Point at 2727 Old Canton Road.
The two-story late modernist style building and adjacent property will serve as Wier Boerner Allin’s offices on the second floor and will offer space to a yet unnamed tenant on the bottom floor. “We have had a lot of interest for a commercial rental for the first floor, but have not signed a lease with anyone,” says principal, Michael Boerner.
Principal Jack Allin says the aesthetic of his firm’s new office will “respect what was done fifty or sixty years ago” while modernizing the structure to meet today’s needs. “The aggregate concrete fins that run around two sides will be preserved and reused in interesting ways,” Allin explains.
The front staircase will be enclosed and stand beside an elevator, partially visible through floor to ceiling glass panels. The front parking area will make way for green space and plantings while the existing parking lot will offer space for client vehicles and a gated staff lot. A roof top terrace will compliment the exterior renovation.
Boerner says Fondren has been a part of the firm’s growth, from a staff of two in the Fondren Corner building in 2010 to their current roster of seventeen. “Seventy five percent of our staff lives in Jackson – several in Fondren — and this seems to be the hip spot to be,” he muses of a neighborhood full of art, food, music and culture.
And now, Wier Boerner Allin hopes to return the favor. “Seventy percent of cars that come off of Lakeland onto Old Canton Road turn left,” Allin says. “Our building has been hidden much of its history. With the changes we are making, we are hoping to create a positive change for that ‘first impression,’ a reinvestment in the city and neighborhood and a front-door experience for a lot of people who may not venture into the business district.”
Barring unexpected inclement weather, expect J.A. Moss to begin construction in early December with an anticipated move-in date early this spring.
Wier Boerner Allin’s work has included Babalu, Iron Horse Grill, The Apothecary, the Dudy Noble Field Master Plan in Starkville and a master plan for neighboring LeFleur East. See more of their work at wierboerner.com and on their Facebook page.

My father, Harry Haas designed and built this building. His architectural firm, Jones & Haas, Architects was located on the second floor. He envisioned the building to have multiple stories with the “fins” going all the way up. Glad to see it being a part of the Fondren revitalization.
In 1966 I delivered the Jackson Daily News every afternoon to Ken Clements, LTD..an upscale men’s clothing store at 2727 Old Canton Road….always thought it was a cool building…and now to be even cooler! Congrats!
