Escude prior to the race

A new record for young runners has been set in today’s Mississippi Blues Marathon. 13 year old Gabriel Escude now holds the title of fastest 13 year old half marathon runner in the state according to StateRunningRecords.com. Escude’s time was 1 hour, 56 minutes and 33 seconds, besting his competition by over 28 minutes.Upon completion of the race, the teen said he felt great and was looking forward to his next race, the Rock ‘N Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon in New Orleans next month.

You may remember in a story we brought you last month that Escude, a cross country runner at his junior high school, had been training for the Blues race since early fall.
